Admissions / Customer Service (Part-time)
Admissions staff are the organization’s front desk customer service representatives and are responsible for museum and theater ticket sales, membership sales, and various group reservations. Admissions staff also serve as the primary first point of contact for visitors, both in-person and over the phone. Previous customer service and register experience preferred, but not required. Admissions staff occasionally work after regular museum hours when private rental functions are hosted in the building. These staff may also be trained to operate and serve concessions food items from the permanent concessions stand at the Science Spectrum. Applicants must be friendly and outgoing in personality, and have excellent communication skills. Weekend availability is required for this position.
OMNI Theater Usher & Concessions Staff (Part-time)
The OMNI Theater at the Science Spectrum is a large-format 15/70mm theater that shows science and history documentary films. Ushers at the theater greet and check tickets of movie-goers, and assist with seating and dismissal of theater attendees. Ushers remain in the theater during each film screening and assist patrons if needed during the show. Ushers also assist with minor technical duties in the theater. Cleaning the theater between film screenings and after the final show of the day is the primary responsibility of an Usher. These staff will also be trained to operate and serve concessions food items from the permanent concessions stand at the Science Spectrum. Applicants must be friendly and outgoing in personality, and must be able to be on their feet for extended periods of time.
STEM Facilitator (Full or Part-time)
STEM Facilitators engage museum visitors with live STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programming both at the museum and off-site at schools and various community organizations. Programming will range from hands-on STEM activities and experiments within the different galleries of the museum, to live stage science shows and demonstrations. STEM Facilitators routinely give orientations to school groups visiting the museum, participate in educational special events, and monitor / assist with resetting museum exhibits. Applicants must have good public speaking abilities, have good science content knowledge, and be comfortable working with live animals (reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates). Applicants must be friendly and out-going in personality, be able to pass a criminal background check, and have a good driving record.
Full or Part-Time FabLab Facilitator
FabLab Facilitators lead hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education programming through the museum’s digital fabrication lab program (FabLab). Programming occurs both at the museum’s in-house Maker Space and off-site at schools and various other community organizations. Previous experience with CAD software, 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, various hand tools or other makerspace experience preferred. Applicants must have good teaching and public speaking abilities, good STEM content knowledge, and be comfortable working with children and adults. Applicants must be friendly and out-going in personality, be able to pass a criminal background check, and have a good driving record.
