Spring Break Camps

All camps require advanced registration and full payment of fees at the time of registration. Registration on-line is preferred. In-person and phone registration is also available.

Cancellation/Refund Policy- Cancellations because of a schedule conflict or change in vacation plans will not be eligible for a refund. Only cancellations due to illness of the child or family emergencies will be eligible for a partial refund. Cancellations, for any reason, less than 24 hours in advance, will not receive a partial refund. Any camps canceled by the Science Spectrum will receive a full refund.

Pirate Crew

Arrr! Did you know pirates were scientists and engineers? Learn about traveling by the stars and find a treasure. Make a sea worthy vessel and put it to the test. Meet some underwater creatures living at the Science Spectrum.

Jr. FabLab

Come join the Science Spectrum’s Fabrication Laboratory! Campers will make music with unconventional materials, create vinyl wall art, and experiment with textiles while making a self-portrait.

Sci-Art

Did you know you can paint with a chemical reaction and use the sun’s energy to make a picture? Campers will use science tools and methods to create unique works of art. Things may get messy, so wear clothes that can get messy too.

Using Makey Makey circuit boards, campers will make music with science and engineering. Learn the basics of circuitry with snap circuits, test out conductive and non-conductive materials, then design and laser cut your own musical instrument to take home.

MARCH 15 – 16

Using Makey Makey circuit boards, campers will make music with science and engineering. Learn the basics of circuitry with snap circuits, test out conductive and non-conductive materials, then design and laser cut your own musical instrument to take home. Finally, take on the challenge of converting a normal staircase into a giant piano!

Fact or Science Fiction?

In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, we are going to dive into the science behind some of our favorite myths and legends. Did you know St. Patrick wasn’t Irish? Could anyone be as strong as the story of Paul Bunyan chopping down 10 trees with a single swing of an ax? Are unicorns real? We will answer these questions and more in this hands-on exploration!

Moon Base Camp

What would it be like to live on the Moon? The Moon is the closest object to us in our solar system, but there is still so much more to discover. Campers will learn about past and future missions to the Moon, test out satellite models, and design and build Moon base prototypes for future inhabitants.

FabLab: Video Game Makers

Game on! First, campers will brush up on the basics of circuitry. Then learn to code your own video game with Scratch and design and laser cut your own video game controller.

MARCH 15 – 16

Crazy Chemistry

Bubbles, temperature change, and color change are all signs of a chemical reaction, but what is actually happening? Learn what molecules look like, how they move, and how they interact in this reactive camp! Make a glowing chemiluminescent solution, experiment with acids and bases, and test some bubbling pop rockets.

Duct Tape Challenge

We supply the duct tape, you provide the creativity! Campers will learn the basics of duct tape construction like making fabric and rope. They will then use duct tape to solve a problem like transporting supplies over a river, moving heavy objects, and making a functional tool. Campers will also design and make something to take home that will help them with a day-to-day task.

MARCH 18 – 19

FabLab: Making Makers

Choose a project and MAKE IT! What would you like to try and make? Make a 3D model blueprint and use machines like a 3D printer or laser cutter to make your prototype. Learn how to use tools like a hammer, drill, hand saw, and screw driver for assembly. Then decorate what you made!
