Spring Break Camps 2023

All camps require advanced registration and full payment of fees at the time of registration. Registration on-line is preferred. In-person and phone registration is also available. Register below, or call 806-745-2525 Ext. 234.

Cancellation/Refund Policy– Cancellations because of a schedule conflict or change in vacation plans will not be eligible for a refund. Only cancellations due to illness of the child or family emergencies will be eligible for a partial refund. Cancellations, for any reason, less than 24 hours in advance, will not receive a partial refund. Any camps cancelled by the Science Spectrum will receive a full refund.

Wings, Wheels, & Watercrafts

Look at all these things go! See who can launch a rocket the farthest, work in groups to make a racetrack, and design boats to stay afloat through Water Works in the Lubbock Children’s Museum.

Mess Fest!

Come dressed for the mess! We will craft with colorful bubbles, test out stretchy slime, and play with ooey-gooey oobleck!

Beautiful Butterflies

Butterflies are truly magical critters! Learn how they start as hungry caterpillars hatching from eggs, and completely transform to fluttering adults. Campers will make bug inspired art, observe real butterflies, and learn about camouflage and mimicry.

Pollinator Power

Pollination is a vital component to our survival on Earth, and is powered by some of the smallest creatures on the planet. It’s not just insects doing all the work! Learn about birds and mammals also helping the process. Observe butterflies up close while touring Butterflies Alive!, learn how to make your own butterfly garden at home, and watch a movie in the OMNI Theater.

Magical Science

Magic is science that hasn’t been explained yet! Come explore the most magical science: chemistry! We will make water disappear, transform liquid colors before your eyes, and make objects vanish in a flash.

FabLab Robotics

Build the future! Learn what robots do and how you can build and program your own. Students will explore the fundamentals of computer science by programming robots to complete real world missions using commands, variables, conditional logic, loops and more. This camp utilizes Botley, Lego and Sphero robots to accommodate every level of learner.

FabLab Game Design

Calling all gamers! In this camp, students will go from consumer to creator, and get a behind-the-scenes experience, learning the art and science of game development. With hands-on activities in programming, design and art, campers will be exposed to every facet of game making.

Under the Microscope

Take a closer look at the hidden world around us! Learn how to gather samples and make your own slides to view under a microscope, get an introduction to plant and animal cells, and discover staining techniques.

Engineering for Nature

If pollinators disappeared, how would humans survive? Campers will use creative thinking and engineering to find solutions. Make hand pollinators for exotic plants, build a bee habitat, tour Butterflies Alive!, and catch a film in the OMNI Theater.

FabLab Laser 101-Logo Design

Breathe life into creativity with the help of CAD! In this camp students will utilize design thinking skills and learn the basics of CAD (Computer Aided Design) to produce their own personal logo or independent design. Once their design is completed, students will get to use the FabLab’s state of the art laser engravers to turn their digital design into a real world product to take home! This class counts as certification to participate in the FabLab’s Open Design Days.
